Neath won the Welsh Team Championship for the first time in their history beating the defending champions Newport in a thrilling final.  Craig (don't mess with the hair) Melding led the team out cruising to an early lead and not giving an inch running away with a 7/6 win.  Matthew (lucky thumb nail) Arbourne was second and had a tough draw against Welsh International Joe Vickery who was on fine form and evened the score.  Our own Welsh International Richard (the lawyer) Hooper played third and was on fire firing in six birdies and not dropping a shot to win 6/5.  Damion (the big easy) Gee was out in the fifth and final match being 2 up with 3 holes to play and favourite to win when the announcement was made that Match Captain Richard (semi-retired builder) Williams had holed the winning put on the 17th green with a 2/1 win in a tough fought match.  Our Club Champion Daniel (drink more powerade) Davies played an important role in the four previous rounds leading up to the final and withdrew when Richard Hooper became available after returning from the Home Internationals.

Neath now qualify to represent Wales in the European Men's Club Championship which is being played at the National Golf Club in Turkey between the 20th  - 22nd October 2011.
